Counselling Psychologist

BSc. (Maths & Psychology) (Wits)
B.Soc.Sci. (Hons) (Psychology) (UCT)
MA. Counselling Psychology (Wits)
Holistic Medical Centre
257 Jan Smuts Ave
Dunkeld West
0839561545
0116453172
Special Interest : I am a counselling psychologist working in Dunkeld, Johannesburg. I provide psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children in areas of stress, anxiety, depression, adjustment, trauma, bereavement/grief, and difficulties in relationships. I also provide affordable cognitive and emotional assessments. I have a special interest in children & adolescents (ADHD, school refusal, stress, separation anxiety, disruptive behaviours).

I provide the following services to adults:
Adult individual psychotherapy
o Depression (feeling low, hopeless, losing interest in things you used to enjoy)
o Anxiety & panic (always feeling worried, poor sleep patterns, feeling ‘on edge’)
o Trauma (hi-jacking, rape, assault, witnessing an accident)
o Loss & bereavement (losing a loved one)
o Adjustment & stress (work stress, changing jobs, getting re-married, divorce)
o Personal growth (wishing to understand yourself better, feeling ‘stuck’)
Couple’s Counselling
Pre-marital Counselling

I provide the following services to children & adolescents:
o Depression (withdrawn, shy, excessive crying, changes in sleep or appetite)
o Anxiety (always fearful, shy, not wanting to separate, worrying, school refusal)
o Disruptive behaviours (ADHD, tantrums, crying, bullying, excessively disobedient)
o Trauma (witness to violence & crime, car accidents)
o Stress & adjustment (parents divorce/re-marrying, birth of new sibling, change in school)
o Bereavement
o Relationship difficulties (bullying, poor self-esteem, parent-child relationship difficulties)
o General signs & symptoms: bed-wetting, changes in sleeping & eating

I also have a special interest in cognitive & emotional assessments for people of all ages. These are a series of tasks and activities that help identify areas of thinking and processing that might be below/above average. This facilitates appropriate intervention and guides treatment. These are usually done when children are having difficulty at school (poor attention, failing grades, poor behaviour in the classroom). School readiness & Griffiths neurodevelopmental assessments are also useful to assess whether children are ready to learn in a formal schooling environment. Other assessments include:
• Career guidance & subject choice assessments (Grade 9-varsity)
• Career changes (mid-career)
• General adult assessments

I work flexible hours, and usually charge below medical aid rates. A sliding scale payment option is sometimes available.

Special Interest : I am interested in individual and group therapy with adults and adolescents. I use art therapy as a way of accessing and releasing the subconscious material that keeps us stuck.

I think it is important to create a very safe, trustworthy space for the therapy. Then it is possible to talk about private issues that may have been secret for a long time.

I aim to work in a gentle, compassionate way, but keeping in mind that the therapeutic process is about moving forward towards healing.

*individual therapy
*Aspergers syndrome
*group art therapy
* improving self-esteem and self- confidence
* adolescents
* couple therapy
* trauma
* women’s psychology
* grief, loss and shame
* parenting issues
