Clinical Psychologist

MA. Clin. Psych. (NWU)
Suite 610, level 6
Tygervalley Health Care Centre
43 Old Oak Road
Special Interest : I have a special interest in the following:
Working with children from divorce;
Clinical Hypnosis;
Emotional Intelligence;
Psychometric Assessments.

I am a licensed facilitator of The Sandcastles Program - Helping the Children of Divorce Rebuild. The image of a child carefully moulding her new "home" of sand to replace the old one swept away by turbulent water, captures the difficult quest every child of divorce must complete in order to grow up emotionally healthy and equal to life’s future challenges.

I hope that every child of divorce will be offered the opportunity to go through The Sandcastles Program as no child should be dealing with the intense emotions following parental divorce on his/her own.

BDram (US), BA Psych. Hons. (UWC), MA Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling (US).
Lingen street, Boston.
Bellville Presbyterian Church offices
076 137 7947
Special Interest : Medical Psychology: I have experience in this field as I completed my community service with City of Cape Town HIV/TB office. I also worked in a consultation- liason service attending to children and adults in general medical wards at Tygerberg hospital. These included the paediatric oncology unit, pain clinic, endocrinology ward and eating disorders unit. Group work involved co- facilitating a Diabetes support group for teenagers who are non-compliant on treatment. I therefore accept referrals regarding disclosure issues or treatment and adherence problems etc.

Psychotherapy from a Christian perspective: I also offer Christian counselling to people who would like this approach.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR): I have completed phase 1 and phase 2 of this training which is accredited by the International EMDR Association and the Europe EMDR Association. EMDR is recommended as a leading treatment for adults diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD -) World Health Organisation (WHO) report of 2013.

Projective testing: When working with children I make use of tests as well as drawings to gain insight into how they see themselves and their home and school environment.

Psychometric testing: I am also able to conduct psychometric testing such as school readiness assessments and IQ testing. I can also screen for neuropsychological impairments and refer when needed. These tests may be valuable if a patient has a change in functioning after a brain injury.

Other reasons for referral: Patients who struggle with: loss, divorce, marital problems, behavioural problems, learning problems, eating disorders, or patients who present with psychosomatic problems.

Treatment modalities include: EMDR, person-centered play therapy, short- term cognitive behavioural therapy, short- term solution- focused therapy, long-term psychodynamic therapy, and relaxation techniques.
